Prosecutor’s Office: Suicide confirmed in Lazare Jorbenadze case, several individuals, including Irakli Garibashvili, to be questioned

A number of investigative and procedural measures have been carried out as part of the Interior Ministry’s ongoing investigation into the death of Lazare Jorbenadze on April 4, 2026, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office said.

According to the agency, people connected to the deceased, including his family members and wife, have been questioned. Based on the evidence gathered so far, the Prosecutor’s Office said the fact of suicide has been conclusively established.

“Despite the above, based on public statements made by convicted former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and other individuals, the Interior Ministry, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, will question Nika Gvaramia, Irma Inashvili, Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Khatia Dekanoidze, Tazo Datunashvili, Gia Khukhashvili, Giorgi Liluashvili, Zaza Davitaia, Ermile Nemsadze and Giorgi Gigauri as part of the ongoing investigation,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Irakli Garibashvili will also be questioned as part of the criminal investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that, given the high public interest, it would provide the public with additional information about the results of the questioning if any new circumstances emerge concerning Jorbenadze’s death.
