President’s Parliamentary Secretary fears amendments to Law on Broadcasting may question essence of Public Broadcaster

Georgian President’s Parliamentary Secretary Ana Natsvlishvili believes that amendments to the Law on Broadcasting may question the idea and essence of Public Broadcaster.

Natsvlishvili made the mentioned statement before the session of the Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy, where the President’s motivated remarks are to be discussed with regard to the bill on Public Broadcaster.

“Today it is critical for Georgian citizens to have an independent, strong and professional Public Broadcaster and also strong commercial media outlets. Unfortunately, this law will not solve the challenges faced by the Public Broadcaster today. On the contrary, this law may even question the idea and essence of the Public Broadcaster. At the same time, this law is a very serious problem to other media outlets and creates risks of corruption”, Natsvlishvili said.

She expressed hope that the Committee will discuss all aspects of the problem in depth and will arrive at the right decision – will share the President’s veto.
