President of Ukraine asked assistance to Pope of Rome in release of hostages in Donbas

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Holy Father Pope Francis during his official visit to Italy and the Vatican.

President of Ukraine asked Pope Francis to assist in the release of the Ukrainian hostages detained in Donbas, Crimea and on the territory of Russia.

“We think that relations between the Holy See and Ukraine, in particular in the context of the war that Russia is waging against us, are very important. After all, the Holy See is not only an important religious centre but also the heart of world diplomacy,” stressed the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

“Therefore,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav, “when we say that there is no military solution to the armed conflict in the Donbas, then the alternative is always diplomacy, dialogue, and international relations.”

“The Pontifex is doing his best to reach peace and harmony in the world. . .  I am inspired by the negotiations about Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
