Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, accompanied by a delegation will attend the funeral service for Pope Francis on Saturday.
The President’s welcoming ceremony was held at Ciampino Military Airport in Rome.
The Georgian delegation includes Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, Head of the Presidential Administration Ketevan Kvinikadze, the Head of the Zugdidi and Tsaishi Dioceses, Chair of the External Relations Department of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Gerasime, as well as Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, Rector of the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary and deputy head of the Sioni Cathedral.
The funeral for Pope Francis is set to begin at 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET) on Saturday, six days after his passing. Political and religious leaders, royalty, and celebrities from around the globe have confirmed their attendance at the service in the Vatican. Pope Francis passed away on April 21.
