President: March 31 symbolizes unity and national dignity, Georgia remains firm in strengthening independence and sovereignty

“March 31 stands as a symbol of our nation’s unity and dignity, reminding us that state independence is our greatest achievement and its protection is a daily responsibility for all,” Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili wrote on social media.

He emphasized that Georgia remains steadfast in strengthening its independence and sovereignty.

“Today, we celebrate one of the most significant dates in Georgia’s modern history—the referendum on the restoration of our independence. On March 31, 1991, in response to the question, ‘Do you agree to restore the state independence of Georgia based on the Act of May 26, 1918?’ the Georgian people gave a unanimous and resolute ‘yes.’

This historic decision paved the way for fulfilling our nation’s long-standing dream—a free and independent state that would shape Georgia’s future. It is also notable that the key figure in this historic process was Georgia’s first President, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, who would have turned 86 today.

March 31 symbolizes the unity and national dignity of our homeland, reaffirming that independence is our most valuable achievement, and its protection remains our shared duty. Georgia continues to move forward unwaveringly on the path of strengthening its independence and sovereignty. Glory to a free and independent Georgia!” Kavelashvili wrote.
