PM: Merger of Tbilisi State and Technical Universities is to improve education; opponents' campaign built on lies
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the merger of Tbilisi State and Technical Universities is a vital initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of education through system optimisation.
The Head of the Government emphasised that the primary goal is to enhance educational standards nationwide.
“Regarding the merger of Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University, our team issued a statement. The Minister of Education has also spoken on this. This is a crucial initiative that ensures the overall optimisation of the system. Most importantly, it is designed to improve the quality of education in Georgia.
You may recall that, at one time, we received serious complaints about the functioning of our education system. Opponents claimed, for instance, that many young people left the country because higher education in Georgia did not meet proper standards. When we announced the education reform, it turned out that Tbilisi State University was being compared to Harvard, Georgian Technical University to Cambridge, and Ilia University to Oxford.
Of course, the campaign mounted by opponents is once again founded on falsehoods, exposing their speculative nature. As for the merger of these specific universities, you can put an end to the speculation; there are only vague statements and no concrete claims regarding any potential disadvantages. Nonetheless, there are many positive aspects,” said the Prime Minister.
