“The main aim of fostering open discussions on various topics is to ensure the unity of society,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Rustavi 2 TV.
As Kobakhidze highlighted, there are serious global trends at play.
“In many countries, including most European nations, it is evident that certain forces are attempting to divide society, and regrettably, they have achieved considerable success. There is a high level of polarisation, with specific tendencies to sow hatred, a phenomenon we have clearly observed in our own context. Our objective is to counteract this. The primary purpose of encouraging open dialogue is to promote societal cohesion. Of course, this does not mean that everyone must share the same opinions,” Kobakhidze explained.
He emphasised that debates are meant for individuals to express differing viewpoints, enabling society to form its own informed stance on various issues.
“In environments where debate is stifled, the gap between different segments of society naturally widens. It is crucial to maintain ongoing discussions around these differing perspectives so that they do not, in a negative sense, become a cause of conflict. Our foremost task is depolarisation, to prevent artificially imposed hatred from dividing us. This is a natural objective, and the initiative we have introduced aims to serve this purpose,” concluded Irakli Kobakhidze.
