“We take pride in the fact that Georgia is a diverse, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious country. The Georgian government is committed to providing maximal support to the Muslim community, and this support will continue into the future,” declared Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at an Iftar event honouring the Muslim community.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of the Muslim community to the country’s development.
“We are proud of our exemplary coexistence, and together we are shaping the future of our shared nation. The Georgian government has been providing substantial support to the Muslim community, particularly since 2014, and this commitment will persist.
Over the past decade, more than 250 mosques have been transferred to the permanent use of the Muslim community, and the government has allocated GEL 35 million in funding. This clearly demonstrates the importance the Georgian government places on the Muslim community’s role in Georgia’s development,” the Prime Minister stated.
Speeches at the iftar were also delivered by Zaza Vashakhmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Affairs; Adam Shantadze, Mufti of Western Georgia; Faig Nabiyev, Sheikh of Georgia’s Muslims; and Etibar Eminov, Mufti of Eastern Georgia.
The Iftar, hosted by the Georgian Prime Minister in honour of the Muslim community, was attended by State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Thea Akhvlediani, Chair of the Government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Tornike Rizhvadze, members of Parliament, state representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps.
