PM Irakli Kobakhidze: Expanding the energy sector remains a foremost priority for our government

“The progress achieved within our energy sector is a direct testament to the dedication of every one of you, for which I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Today, we are working not merely to preserve these gains, but to further fortify our national grid and energy security; one of the absolute priorities of our administration,” stated Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during an address marking Energy Workers’ Day.

Extending his congratulations to industry professionals on their professional holiday, the Head of Government highlighted that the foundations have been laid for a new strategic vision that will guide the expansion of the country’s energy grid over the next decade.

“I congratulate you on your professional holiday! Today, Energy Worker’s Day is being celebrated at a truly remarkable venue, a hydroelectric power station commissioned in 1927, boasting a century-long legacy. As one of the first high-capacity hydropower plants in Georgia’s history, its launch marked a watershed moment for our nation and economy.

Today, energy remains indispensable to our national development and economic growth. Expanding this sector will remain a top priority for the government in the years ahead.

The milestones we have achieved in energy are owed to every energy worker, to your tireless labour, your professionalism, and your engineering accomplishments. For this, I express my deepest appreciation to you all.

Today, we are focused not only on sustaining these results, but on expanding our energy grid and bolstering our energy security – a core priority of our administration.

Over the past year, the Ministry of Economy has implemented pivotal reforms specifically targeting its energy portfolio. These changes have already yielded tangible results, which will become even more pronounced in the coming years as new energy infrastructure comes online and our national grid is qualitatively strengthened. As you know, optimisation measures have been carried out across multiple fronts, laying the groundwork for a new vision that will chart the evolution of our energy grid over the next 10 years,” the Prime Minister noted.
