Georgia’s PM: As US transparency efforts prove, what our opponents labelled a ‘Russian law’ is actually the foundation of democracy

“It is very positive that the US is actively safeguarding the transparency of foreign influence. What we have maintained over recent years, and what our political opponents and foreign agents branded a ‘Russian law’, has proven to be a cornerstone of democracy,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists when asked to comment on US legislation requiring individuals to register as foreign agents.

According to the Head of Government, transparency is an essential bedrock of democracy that must be bolstered across all democratic nations.

“Transparency is one of the foundational principles of democracy. It is very positive that the US is actively safeguarding the transparency of foreign influence. What we have maintained over recent years, and what our political opponents and foreign agents branded a ‘Russian law’, has proven to be a cornerstone of democracy.

Naturally, transparency is indispensable to a democratic system, and it ought to be strengthened in every democratic nation. We took serious measures to secure this in Georgia, and it has already yielded results. Ensuring that any foreign political influence operates in a completely transparent manner remains one of our foremost priorities,” the Prime Minister declared.
