Paweł Herczyński: It is for Georgians to decide how to come out of deepening political crisis
“Georgia is in a very deep political crisis. We see, for over two months, people on the streets, demanding democracy, demanding a European future. It is for Georgians to come out of this very unfortunate situation,” said Paweł Herczyński, EU Ambassador to Georgia.
According to the EU Ambassador, the European Union wants Georgia to succeed.
“As a European Union, we really want Georgia to succeed. We have decided to grant Georgia EU candidate status, and we were waiting for Georgia to join other candidate countries in making sure that as soon as possible, Georgia will become a full member of the European Union.
But since December 23, since being granted candidate status, lots of negative developments have happened in Georgia. Actually, if you look at the last several months, it’s from bad to worse. I’m saying this as an EU Ambassador, when it comes to EU integration, we are at the lowest possible point. So, it’s for Georgians to decide how to come out of this deepening political and social crisis.
What I would really recommend is that there is dialogue, that the authorities, who have additional responsibility for finding a way out of this situation, start talking to the people, that they do not ignore people who are standing on the streets and demanding European and democratic future for them and their children,” he said.
