Maritime Transport Agency Head: Anaklia Deep Sea Port enters key milestone as dredging begins on access channel and turning basin

“Construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port has progressed to a crucial new phase, with dredging operations now underway on the entrance channel and turning basin,” stated Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia.

Abashidze specified that engineering works on site are being carried out jointly by two vessels from the fleet of Belgian contractor Jan De Nul Group, the Al-Idrisi and the Tristao Da Cunha.

According to Abashidze, port construction has now transitioned into a more complex phase of marine engineering.

“This instils greater confidence among our international partners, particularly regarding the Georgian transport corridor and our logistics sector. It provides robust assurances that cargo flows attracted to Georgia, which have grown significantly in recent years, particularly over the past two years, will remain firmly within Georgia’s transit corridor. Anaklia Port will be specifically equipped to serve these expanded freight volumes moving across transit routes traversing Georgia,” Abashidze noted.
