Parliament to debate on applying penalty for partner states’ flag damage
Georgian Parliament will discuss a bill on imposition of GEL 1,000 penalty for damaging the state flag of partner states to be added to the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia.
The same act committed for the second time will cause fining a person with GEL 2,000 or 15-day imprisonment. The bill aims to prevent damaging and insulting symbolics of Georgian partner countries and international organizations.
Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava and MPs Aleksandre Elisashvili, Fridon Injia, Khatuna Samnidze, Nikoloz Samkharadze and Badri Japaridze initiated the bill.
The European Union flag hoisted at the parliament building was twice torn down during the July 5-6 anti-Tbilisi Pride protests by far-right mobs.
