Parliament may vote to set up fact-finding commission in ex-President's case

Georgian MPs might vote to set up a fact-finding commission into the case of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer from Rustavi to Gldani prison.

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party does not support the initiative and accuses opponents from the United National Movement (UNM) party of “political bargaining.”

“The UNM aims to make a fuss, and they found a relevant time today,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee.

Fifty MPs must back the initiative to set up the commission, though one part of the opposition is unlikely to support it.

Today, the lawmakers are also set to vote for the establishment of a fact-finding commission into the case of US-sanctioned judges.
