PM: Elimination of corruption at highest levels contributed to 7.9% economic growth

Georgia’s economy grew by 8% in July, bringing economic growth for the first seven months of the year to 7.9%, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting.

According to the prime minister, the figures indicate that Georgia has maintained a high pace of economic growth.

“We have positive dynamics in all these areas. Very important changes and reforms have been implemented in various sectors related to economic development. This concerns logistics, transport, communications, energy, tourism and many other areas. Of course, one of the main reasons behind these economic indicators is precisely this progress across different sectors and areas of the economy,” Kobakhidze said.

He also attributed the economic performance to the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

“Fighting corruption is also producing results, and one of the reasons we managed to improve the economic growth rate compared with last year is precisely that we have succeeded in eliminating corruption at the highest levels of government and continue to fight corruption at all levels,” the prime minister said.
