“Poland is the initiator of the Moscow Mechanism mission. We cannot accept observations on human rights from the allies and friends of the creator of a torture system. Donald Tusk is the person who declared Saakashvili a democrat and publicly honoured him with an empty chair at a congress, praising him in glowing terms,” stated the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker of Parliament was asked about the fact that Great Britain and 23 OSCE countries have “activated the OSCE Moscow Mechanism due to the deteriorating human rights situation in Georgia and are requesting the creation of an expert mission”.
“This is yet another example of how various organisations are being used to attack, intimidate, and subjugate the Georgian people. Such initiatives are driven by this very motive. They amount to MEGOBARI Acts or resolutions, but in reality, they represent the same tactic: attempting to intimidate the Georgian people while they are simply opening the door for dialogue. We are ready for discussion and willing to answer any questions on any issue. Instead, we see Brussels completely blocking all dialogue. Their stubborn stance is evident, which explains why Brussels finds itself in its current position.
The fact that the U.S. Secretary of State fails to understand Kaja Kallas is a direct result of such unprofessional politics, especially regarding Georgia, where threats and blackmail are preferred over dialogue and conversation. This behaviour is entirely un-European. Decisions of this nature are a clear manifestation of this approach: an attempt to blackmail, pressure, and intimidate the Georgian population. We have nothing to hide. There is no issue or question we cannot discuss. The falsehood propagated by the BBC, claiming we used First World War-era chemical weapons, is utterly appalling. It has been confirmed that such substances were never even present on Georgian territory. As for the development and use of chemical weapons, they should inquire in Britain, not Georgia,” declared Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, if there are any questions or investigative materials, Georgia’s government is prepared to grant a relevant international institution permission to examine them.
“The Prime Minister stated that if there are any questions, investigative materials are available, and we are prepared to grant a relevant international institution permission to examine them. How many have approached Georgia’s government on this matter? Zero. They should come, see for themselves, and then stop playing the fool; they should admit they were wrong. This is a rapporteur mechanism used by other institutions as well. It’s an impartial process where a rapporteur compiles reports, opinions, and recommendations. It’s neither an investigation, nor a court, nor anything binding. It’s a fact-finding mission.
Do you know who initiated this mechanism? As far as I know, it was Poland. That’s the same Poland that smuggled a James Bond-like doctor into Saakashvili’s hospital, who secretly took samples of Saakashvili’s saliva or other material with forceps. That’s the Poland in question. The person sent by the Polish government was essentially a spy-doctor. Back then, we should have investigated what they were up to. It was just a routine special operation. And what do you think its purpose was? To conduct research? No, their goal was to create a scenario, to extract some material and then claim they found iron, titanium, or who knows what in Saakashvili’s body. They wanted to say this was obtained covertly. This is what the Polish government was doing to us.
Even now, representatives of the Polish government stand alongside Saakashvili. Tusk, who was the leader of the People’s Party, once placed an empty chair with Saakashvili’s name on it and delivered a speech at a conference about creating a torture system. Tusk’s government talks about human rights when their friend in Georgia is Saakashvili, the architect of a torture system? Do they dare to criticise Georgia? We cannot accept human rights observations from allies and friends of the creator of a torture system. Tusk is the person who declared Saakashvili a democrat and publicly honoured him with an empty chair at a congress, praising him in glowing terms. They also have issues with the American government; you’re probably aware of that. You likely know the current American administration’s stance towards Poland’s Foreign Minister, too,” declared Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, all evidence suggests that this is also a political tool against Georgia, designed to fuel radicals here and give them a talking point.
“Everything confirms that this too is a political instrument against Georgia, to constantly provide fodder to radicals here, to give them a talking point. This is the government and country that is a friend, ally of the creator of a torture system and thus shares, amongst other things, responsibility for the torture system created by Saakashvili in Georgia’s prisons. We not only permit the mission to visit Georgia, but also allow Rasa Juknevičienė to come. This individual has a hostile and fascist attitude towards the Georgian people, yet we still allow her,” declared Shalva Papuashvili.
