Opposition parties continue to work on October 2 local election strategy
Opposition parties in Georgia continue consultations on the election strategy as the local elections approach on October 2, 2021, and the ruling Georgian Dream party nominate its mayoral candidates.
The parliamentary opposition Citizens party announced the election program presentation next week. Levan Ioseliani, the party member, said Citizens would mainly focus on the election campaign in Tbilisi. The party predominantly chose female candidates to run for Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly), he said.
Opposition Girchi party decided to drop mayoral vacancies. Vakhtang Megrelishvili, a member of the Girchi Party, said the party has no suitable candidates at this stage and added the party would weigh on the proportional lists. Speaking about the pre-election campaign, he said, the Girchi was selecting its candidates virtually across Georgia. “Our campaign is not conventional; we keep it in a zoom format,” Megrelishvili claimed.
Another opposition Lelo for Georgia party reported it keeps consulting over mayoral candidates. The party is trying to identify a candidate to mobilize the highest number of votes to defeat, as they said, Ivanishvili’s regime in the local elections.
