Sergo Khidesheli, the mayor of Oni, provided an update on the ongoing rescue operations in the landslide-affected Shovi resort in Oni Municipality, Racha region.
He mentioned the extensive involvement of various agencies in the ongoing work and highlighted the expansion of the search and rescue efforts’ area.
“Our efforts have been broadened to encompass a larger area. We are conducting operations in the Chanchakhi valley and in the Rion area. The National Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation. Over the last 24 hours, body fragments have been discovered during the search,” Khidesheli stated.
As of August 11, the death toll from the devastating landslide in the Shovi resort had reached 24, with nine individuals still reported as missing.
A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
