No immediate danger of another large-scale landslide, Environment Agency Head says

The final conclusion regarding the events that took place during the Shovi landslide will be available in approximately two to three weeks, Vasil Gedevanishvili, the head of the National Environment Agency, stated following a meeting with local residents in the village of Glola.

Gedevanishvili emphasized the specialists continue monitoring and observing the valley to eliminate any more potential threats, adding there is currently no immediate danger or risk of another large-scale landslide occurring.

He explained that water level measurement devices have been installed on the Chanchakh River and Rion River to monitor water flow.

“Additional devices will be installed to enhance early monitoring systems, including water measurement devices and weather stations. These measures will provide preliminary information about changes in climatic conditions, precipitation levels, and other relevant factors.

The final conclusion regarding the Shovi disaster will be available in approximately two to three weeks,” Vasil Gedevanishvili said.
