GD’s Dimitri Samkharadze: Not a word from Garibashvili stands up to rational analysis; he undergoes personal, political, and human tragedy

“What is happening to Irakli Garibashvili is a personal, political, and human tragedy,” wrote Dimitri Samkharadze, Regional Secretary of Georgian Dream, in a statement published on social media.

According to Samkharadze, not a single word uttered by Irakli Garibashvili withstands rational scrutiny.

“Ever since former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili launched a filthy, offensive smear campaign against Georgian Dream and the party’s founder, Mr Bidzina Ivanishvili, following his own admitted corruption offences from behind bars, I, as the party’s Regional Secretary, have refrained from making any public statement.

I was curious and waiting to see what path this confessed criminal would walk, and what level of degradation a man would reach who was, regrettably, once a leader of our team; a man who, equally regrettably, first dirtied his hands with corruption, then confessed to his crimes and accepted his punishment. Unfortunately, Garibashvili has stooped to the level of Asaval-Dasavali, a piece of toilet-paper rag funded by his own illegally amassed wealth.

Naturally, I do not intend to engage with the substance of this man’s delusions, as not a single word he says is subject to rational reasoning. What is happening to him is his own personal, political, and human tragedy. I want to say to the broader family of our political team that this is yet another lesson in how heavily, and yet how tragically, a career ends for a person who betrays our ideals and trades his homeland, principles, and team unity for personal material gain.

Finally, I address the loyal, true soldiers of Georgian Dream: our uncompromising battle to reclaim our homeland, purge foreign agents, and liberate our nation began in 2011 under the leadership of a national statesman. Every day since has been a process of safeguarding the great victory of our people and cherishing this precious achievement. In the face of the numerous betrayals witnessed along this difficult path, the counterweight remains the unity that we, the true soldiers of Georgian Dream, display to one another: a steadfast unity through which we fortify our homeland,” Dimitri Samkharadze wrote.
