No to Russia rally keeps on in Tbilisi

Georgians rally with the slogan No to Russia for the second day outside the Parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

Opposition party representatives, along with civil activists and citizens, protest the resumption of direct flights between Russia and Georgia. They also demand the immediate release of 16 rally participants detained at the Kvareli Lake hotel in the Kakheti region.

Protesters see the resumption of flights as a threat to the European integration path and EU candidate status. They urge the authorities to revoke the decision and introduce visa regime to Russian citizens.

On May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled the ban on direct flights of Russian airlines and the sale of tours to Georgia that had been in force since 2019. By another decree, Russia lifted a visa requirement for Georgians.
