Ninety per cent of debris in disaster epicentres searched

Rescuers and fire-fighter continue rescue efforts in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), rescue efforts continue in the disaster epicentre as well as Chanchakhi and Rioni riverbeds.

“Ninety per cent of the debris has been searched. Human aid, heavy vehicles and boats are involved in the rescue efforts,” the MIA said.

The death toll in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality rose to 25 on August 14. Eight people are still missing, and rescue efforts continue at various locations.

A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
