Racha Governor: Search efforts for missing persons continue in Shovi

Search efforts for two missing persons continue in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort for 28 days, said Papuna Margvelidze, Racha Regional Governor.

According to the Governor, all 31 dead bodies are identified. He said the rescuers discovered a fragment of a human body on August 29 and it is subjected to DNA expertise in Kutaisi.

Racha Governor expressed condolence over the death of military officer Temur Kharchilava, who died when performing his duties in the disaster zone. Another soldier felt bad and was taken to a hospital. His health state is not life-threatening.

According to Margvelidze, infrastructure restoration works continue in parallel to the rescue efforts.

The death toll in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality rose to 31 on August 24.

Two people are still missing, and rescue efforts continue at various locations, including the Rioni and Chanchakhi riverbeds. Heavy vehicles, human resources, and a team of cynologists are involved in the efforts.

A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
