NCDC to meet Patriarchate ahead of upcoming Easter holiday

The Head of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health, Amiran Gamkrelidze, says the epidemiological situation in Georgia has deteriorated. The spread of the virus will peak in late April, the first two weeks of May.

The UK strain of coronavirus is largely circulating in the country for now. New strains around the world could increase reinfection cases, NCDC Head noted.

As to the upcoming Easter holiday, NCDC plans to hold consultations with the Georgian Patriarchate. The issue of closing cemeteries relies on the country’s epidemic situation.

“We urge citizens to adhere to the coronavirus recommendations, observe social distance and face mask rules. I am sure that the Patriarchate will make every effort not to increase the risk and follow the rules,” Gamkrelidze stated.
