MP Gabunia: People passed their verdict on the radicals long ago; now only the legal ruling remains
MP Giorgi Gabunia, chair of Parliament’s Culture Committee, said he expects a ruling on the constitutional lawsuit soon. If the radical forces do not take part in the proceedings, he added, the decision will come even sooner, and the process will be brought to a close.
According to Gabunia, the ruling Georgian Dream party had committed to a major political reset as part of its election campaign.
“Our election promise was that the radical forces, which are controlled and funded from abroad and whose only aim is to stoke political tensions in Georgia, fuel hate speech and stage a revolution, must be brought to an end, and that there must be a major political reset. We must break the vicious circle imposed on us from outside for so many years. As for the radicals’ activities, they are not those of political forces. A political party operates within a clearly defined framework: it is represented in Parliament and local government, and it engages in active debate with the authorities. The radicals have nothing to do with any of this. These are people who, funded and directed from abroad, have constantly tried to harm the country’s national interests. They have no aim other than to endanger the country. We have to go through this process; it is important. The Georgian people passed their verdict on them long ago. All that remains is the legal ruling,” Gabunia said.
