MP Bochorishvili: Certain politicians using Georgia's situation for narrow political purposes

Maka Bochorishvili, the Chairman of the European Integration Committee, expressed concerns about certain politicians in the European Parliament using Georgia’s situation for narrow political purposes.

As Bochorishvili stated in Strasbourg, where the parliamentary delegation is holding meetings, statements like Kubilius made have a negative impact on Georgia’s European integration process.

“The sole purpose behind such actions is to undermine the European integration process and exploit it for narrow domestic political gains. These are the opinions expressed by Kubilius, and the only thing they indicate to me is that certain individuals are manipulating the issue of European integration for their own domestic political agendas. This trend is not confined to our domestic landscape; there are also proponents of this notion beyond our borders. This is detrimental because the European Union is built upon democratic principles and the tenets of democracy. Democracy inherently involves respecting the government elected by the people. In democratic nations, including Georgia, the determination of who holds power is exclusively entrusted to the Georgian people, and it is made through the democratic process of elections. This represents the singular method of governance in democratic societies. Consequently, the management of the government and the approach toward the government should be following democratic norms. Any efforts to undermine internal politics for various reasons, particularly using critical issues, are inconsistent with European ideals and certainly fall short of European standards and values,” she said.

Maka Bochorishvili remarked on MEP Andrius Kubilius’s statement that “when a nation has a problem with the government, society should solve this problem”.
