Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture clarifies regulations on M1 category motorcars
The Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture additionally clarifies regulations on M1 category motorcars.
The Ministry said that to determine the compliance of a specific vehicle with the M1 category, a consultation can be conducted at the LEPL Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The Georgian government has adopted a resolution banning the import, initial and temporary registrations of M1 category vehicles older than six years starting April 1.
New regulations on the import, first and temporary registration of vehicles do not apply to electric vehicles.
The ban also does not apply to the import of vehicles if the importer does not register them in Georgia, as well as to re-export, transit and export.
According to the ministry, exceptions will apply to M1 vehicles whose transportation began before April 1 or which have already been imported into Georgia’s customs territory. The initial registration of such vehicles will be carried out under the existing rules before the deadline.
However, the requirement that the vehicle must meet the Euro 5b standard remains in effect, and no additional exemptions apply to this requirement.
