“The suspension of visa-free travel privileges for Georgian diplomatic and official passport holders has yielded minimal practical impact,” Polish Member of the European Parliament Krzysztof Brejza stated on Wednesday, citing intelligence and reports received directly from Georgia.

Addressing European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos during a parliamentary session, MEP Brejza, a member of the European People’s Party (EPP) group, pressed the Executive on whether broader measures were being prepared.

“Is the Commission considering a broader suspension of visa-free travel, and is there a realistic prospect of member states agreeing on targeted sanctions in the Council?” Brejza asked.

In response, Commissioner Kos said that the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council would convene a dedicated debate on Georgia the following week to assess response options across member states.

“Next week, we will have a dedicated discussion on Georgia in the EU Foreign Affairs Council,” Commissioner Kos stated. “‘We can only do as much as member states are willing to do.'”
