Constitutional Court resumes hearing on party ban case on Monday
The Constitutional Court of Georgia will resume its hearing today at 14:00 on the lawsuit seeking to declare the activities of five political parties unconstitutional and ban them.
The substantive hearing will continue throughout the week, and if necessary, sessions may also be held in the following weeks.
During the first three days of the hearing, opposition representatives filed several motions. They asked the Court to send the lawsuit to Strasbourg for an advisory opinion and to involve Venice Commission experts in the proceedings. The opposition also requested a one-month adjournment. The Constitutional Court Plenum rejected every motion.
Since 21 October, the Constitutional Court has been hearing Georgian Dream’s constitutional lawsuit seeking to declare unconstitutional and ban the activities of the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia – Lelo, the Federalists and Gakharia for Georgia.
