Level of lead in construction paints to be controlled from 2023

New regulations of the levels of lead in construction paints will come into effect in Georgia from 2023. It imposes new obligations on manufacturers, distributors and sellers.

According to the technical regulations, the lead content in paints should not exceed 0.009 per cent. The Market Monitoring Agency will monitor and supervise the process.

“EU Association Agreement obliges the country to enact a new regulation. Besides, this issue is on the agenda due to its importance. The lead can cause damage to human health in the long run,” the acting director of the agency told the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

He explained that two years are needed to prepare the private sector and institutions for the new regulations. The rule will enter into force on July 1, 2023.
