Levan Ioseliani: I am first Public Defender in Georgian history who speaks publicly about everything and does not lie

The Georgian Public Defender, Levan Ioseliani, has responded to criticism from the Civil Society Foundation, which claimed he ‘failed to properly fulfill his duties by not characterizing the treatment of protest victims as systemic violence.’

Ioseliani rejected this accusation, calling it ‘a fabricated lie.’ He stated, ‘I have published documentation supporting this and provided numerous explanations. The mistreatment was indeed systemic in nature, encompassing various types of crimes including torture, threats of torture, and inhuman treatment.’

‘I have issued more than ten statements attributing responsibility to the police and government for these actions,’ Ioseliani continued. ‘I am the first Public Defender in Georgia’s history to have visited all social housing facilities and shelters, to be familiar with everyone’s problems, to speak openly about all issues, and to maintain complete honesty.’
