Law enforcement foils large-scale drug importation into Georgia

Officials from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service have apprehended a person, identified as J.K., born in 1981, on charges of illegal possession, storage, and smuggling of a substantial quantity of narcotics and psychotropic substances into Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement officers detained a citizen of the Republic of Türkiye at the Sarpi border checkpoint.

“During a search of the suspect’s personal and travel belongings, a significant quantity of narcotics and psychotropic substances was uncovered as evidence, including 979 MDMA tablets and 47 capsules containing Pregabalin. The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260, 261, and 262 of the Criminal Code, which stipulate penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
