Kakha Kaladze calls on the MPs to support the amendments to a draft law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”

The mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze calls on the MPs to support the amendments to a draft law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons” in the parliament of Georgia.

As Kakha Kaladze stated today, those amendments have a huge importance and the shortcomings in the law should be eradicated.

According to the current law, a person can be granted the right of residence if they buy real estate that is worth a minimum of $35,000.

If a foreign citizen gives his/her property to another foreigner, he/she also can be granted the right of residence. This is the existing shortcoming that should be corrected.

We welcome foreign citizens and we are not against them to get the education, conduct the legitimate economic activity, but law and rules should coincide with the interest of our country- kaladze noted.

According to the mayor of Tbilisi, he has already discussed this issue with the chairmen of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze and the MP Ilia Tsulaia.
