Georgian Parliament enforces red security level

The Parliament of Georgia has announced that a red level of security will be in effect at the Parliament building until 14:00, after which a yellow level will be put in place.

“This decision comes as a result of damage to the building and infrastructure caused by the attack carried out by the participants of the protest action on May 1,” the parliament reported.

As a consequence of the incident, the scheduled events, such as the bureau and plenary sessions, will not take place at the Parliament Palace on May 2. Cleaning and restoration work is currently underway.

During the red level of security, access to the Parliament building will be restricted to all persons except those deemed necessary by the head of the parliamentary staff according to the specific threat and measures needed to avoid it. Once the red level is cancelled at 14:00, a yellow level of security will be implemented, at which time visitors will be restricted from entering the Parliament Palace, and only employees of the Parliament of Georgia will be allowed entry.

These measures are intended to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the Parliament of Georgia. Additional security measures are in place under the order of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia N1/259/23 dated September 4, 2023, regarding the approval of security protection rules in the Palace of the Parliament of Georgia.
