Irakli Kobakhidze accuses President of being aggressive against court in certain cases

Always when the court makes decisions against the interests of the National Movement, the President becomes aggressive against the court. This cannot be just a coincidence, – Chairman of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze said and brought the President’s position regarding Saakashvili’s two cases and Rustavi 2 case as examples.

Kobakhidze spoke about the reasons for which the ruling team changed its decision to participate in consultations with the president to select a candidate for the position of the Supreme Court Chairperson.

“We have always stated that we have a very pessimistic expectation, which is related to the past practices. Giorgi Margvelashvili used to regularly violate the principles during staffing the court. This makes us think that the President will be guided by persons and not state interests in this case too. I think that these consultations will not bring any result. The President has its prerogative, the Parliament has its own one – and we will act in accordance with our priorities,” Kobakhidze said.

When asked of why they changed mind in one day, Kobakhidze said that the recent statements made it clear that the President will try to turn the process into quarrel. “His attitude to the court is anti-state. He proved it several times, when the court made decisions relating to the National Movement,” Kobakhidze said.
