Gov’t Administration Head: Government Efficiency Department to monitor all executive bodies

“The newly established Government Efficiency Department will oversee both internal audits and efficiency evaluations across all executive bodies,” Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Georgian Government Administration, told journalists.

As Zhorzholiani noted, Parliament has approved the creation of the Government Efficiency Department in its third reading, formally establishing it by law.

“The department’s mission is to enhance the overall efficiency of the government. Since Irakli Kobakhidze assumed office as Prime Minister, one of his top priorities has been the fight against corruption and improving government performance. In this context, it is crucial to have dedicated agencies to support this goal. One such agency will be the Government Efficiency Department, which will be formed based on the existing internal audit system within the government administration,” said Zhorzholiani.

He added that the department will conduct internal audits and efficiency checks across all executive bodies, including ministries and state-owned enterprises.

“We have already made significant progress in this direction, and the public will soon see tangible results. Our priority is to ensure that state resources and the budget are used as effectively and transparently as possible. Georgia’s budget ranks first in transparency according to international ratings. Through the Government Efficiency Department, we aim to enable real-time auditing and oversight of everything from project planning and implementation to execution,” he added.
