Girchi Rakviashvili: Stalinist ideas unfortunately spread across society, political spectrum, religious parts

Stalin was the main enemy of our church, and I don’t think anyone in our church is in their right mind and is on Stalin’s side or likes him, etc. I don’t know what exactly Davit Berdzenishvili meant, but one thing is important, Stalin may be known personally by many as the executioner and enemy of our country and the church, but the ideas of Stalinism are very widespread in our society to this day, said the member of Girchi party, Aleksandre Rakviashvili.

According to him, if there is any evidence that someone is protecting Stalin, it can be publicly discussed.

“We live under the rules that are largely the work of Stalin, starting with the government interfering in family affairs, and it was Stalin who destroyed our traditional family values. Now, what people think is traditional, is actually Stalinist, and in this part, the conservatives who call themselves, are actually Stalinist in their idea; The second is the government. The government owns the whole country, it happened under Stalin when they took away our property, so Stalinist ideas are unfortunately spread throughout society, across the political spectrum, religious part, etc. If this is what Davit Berdzenishvili meant, it would be true, but I don’t think it was discussed, and perhaps he will explain his position better,” Rakviashvili said.

The remark comes after one of the leaders of the Republican Party, Davit Berdzenishvili, said: “They are not only protecting the icon of Matrona and the Russian narrative, they are protecting Stalin, the Georgian Patriarchate is full of Stalinists.”
