Georgian PM meets EU's Borrell

The security situation in the region, Georgia’s successful steps toward the implementation of the 12-point plan, and the European Commission’s analytical report on Georgia were the key topics discussed at the meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission/EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, within the scope of the Security Conference in Munich.

At the meeting, the implementation of the 12 priorities defined by the European Council for Georgia was underscored, most of which have been finalized in full, while the part with legislative acts has been referred for an opinion to the Venice Commission, the government’s press office noted.

The Head of the Government said, “receiving the candidate status is the next step on the country’s path toward EU membership.”

“It was underlined that the European Commission’s report commends Georgia’s efforts in the directions ensuring the country’s legislative and institutional compatibility with the EU, which once again illustrates that Georgia is an unequivocal leader in terms of sectoral reforms as well.

The conversation at the meeting touched on the security environment and challenges in the region and worldwide. The Head of Government reaffirmed the Georgian Government’s commitment to the policy of peaceful conflict resolution,” reads the press statement.
