Georgian FM: Full accord with Hungary on national sovereignty, shared by U.S. administration

“We are in full accord with Hungary in the fight to protect national sovereignty,” said Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, speaking to Georgian journalists in Budapest, where she is part of the Prime Minister’s delegation attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Botchorishvili emphasized the importance of shared values with the new U.S. administration, noting ongoing efforts to strengthen unity between the United States and European forces committed to defending sovereignty and fundamental rights.

“We see a similar struggle in Hungary, particularly regarding Viktor Orbán. This struggle highlights the role of the bureaucratic machinery, which often contradicts the core values of national sovereignty. In this context, a significant platform has emerged—initiated by Viktor Orbán himself—that is gaining momentum across Europe.

In recent years, we have witnessed the growth of a new political movement in the European Parliament. This sizable group reflects both its public support and its importance on the political stage. At the same time, we see it facing strong opposition, with active measures being taken against it. This dynamic is especially notable given that the new U.S. administration shares similar values.

Significant efforts are now being made to strengthen unity between the United States and European forces that stand for sovereignty and fundamental rights,” Botchorishvili noted.
