Georgian delegation holds meetings in Brazilian Senate and Chamber of Deputies
The Georgian parliamentary delegation held meetings in the Brazilian Senate and Chamber of Deputies, the Parliament of Georgia reported.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with Nelsinho Trad, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Brazilian Senate; Luiz Nishimori, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies; and Maurício Carvalho, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
During the meetings, the sides reviewed bilateral parliamentary relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation. It was emphasized that holding regular joint committee meetings—both online and through bilateral visits—would play an important role in strengthening ties. The Georgian side thanked their Brazilian counterparts for their firm support of Georgia’s territorial integrity. Brazilian legislators reaffirmed that this support is based on the fundamental principles of international law and will remain unwavering.
The delegation also presented the results of Georgia’s economic reforms, which have led to double-digit economic growth in recent years.
Discussions touched on Brazil’s and Latin America’s political processes, Georgia’s potential as a transit corridor, and investment opportunities. At the Education Committee, the parties highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation between Georgian and Brazilian universities and sharing best practices in education reforms.
The delegation also met with Cláudio Cajado, Head of the Brazilian Parliament’s Friendship Group with Georgia. The sides agreed to establish a dynamic cooperation format between the friendship groups. It was announced that a “Georgia Days” event will be held in the Brazilian Parliament this fall, while “Brazil Days” will be hosted in the Georgian Parliament next year.
The parliamentary delegation led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, includes Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and Head of the Georgia-Brazil Friendship Group; Viktor Sanikidze, Chairman of the Sports Committee; and Georgia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Zurab Mchedlishvili.
