Georgia to establish diplomatic relations with Nauru following the Pacific nation’s formal withdrawal of recognition of the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region

Georgia and the Republic of Nauru are set to establish formal diplomatic relations. The Georgian Government Administration issued an official announcement.

The bilateral accord will be officially signed in New York during the Prime Minister’s upcoming working visit to the United Nations.

The Government Administration confirmed that an executive decree authorising the execution of the protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Nauru was formally enacted by the Cabinet today.

This strategic diplomatic move follows Nauru’s decision on 29 July to formally revoke its recognition of the independence of occupied Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia (Tskhinvali region) and sever all diplomatic ties with the Russian-backed occupation regimes.
