MP Matikashvili: Opposition promised “rivers of people” yet again, but only a handful turned up
“How many times have they promised ‘rivers of people’? Once again, the rally by the radical and foreign-agent parties was a fiasco, and once again only a handful of people gathered,” said MP Davit Matikashvili, chair of Parliament’s Procedural Issues Committee.
He said the public had seen how much real support radicalism and foreign agents actually have.
“The claim that the case before the Constitutional Court is depriving a substantial number of voters of their right to choose is a lie, pulled out of thin air. Their support in this case is effectively zero. The outcome of the Constitutional Court case depends entirely on a party’s actual aims, rather than its level of public support. That is why anti-constitutional political forces acting against the state should not exist in the political landscape. In Saakashvili, we again see a cult of the leader, which sadly some forces still regard as a ‘beacon of democracy’, when in reality he was busy destroying democracy. This figure is incompatible with the other foreign-agent opposition forces, and their squabbling clearly reveals their true anti-state face, which is yet another argument for banning these parties,” Matikashvili said.
