MP Gorduladze: Opposition understood the ‘unconstitutional party ban’ lawsuit perfectly well despite making excuses

“Today’s session will open with the court announcing its ruling on a pending motion,” said MP Archil Gorduladze, chair of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee.

Gorduladze said that, under the procedure, the rapporteur judge will briefly outline the lawsuit, after which the claimant will present its explanations to the Plenum of the Constitutional Court.

“For all this time they have been saying they couldn’t understand the lawsuit, but they understood very well which unconstitutional actions in it relate to which party. A detailed examination of these issues will prove that despite operating under different names and ballot numbers, these parties are effectively acting as one.

The actions they have carried out, in some cases independently and in others jointly, which we have seen since 2021, for example after Gakharia’s party was formed, will be assessed as undemocratic and anti-state. At the same time, they will also be held responsible for actions they did not distance themselves from and which they directly endorsed by joining coalitions.

Their public statements are one thing; the reality of their actions is quite another. Every one of those steps is anti-state,” Gorduladze said.

The Constitutional Court has been hearing Georgian Dream’s constitutional lawsuit seeking to declare the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia – Lelo, the Federalists and Gakharia for Georgia unconstitutional and ban their activities since 21 October.
