Georgia chose modernity and Europe – Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with French Radio RTL.
In an opening of the interview, the journalist says that inauguration of Georgia’s 5th president proceeded under the background of protest of the opposition. The journalist writes that in an inauguration speech, Zurabishvili pledged that she would be on the watch guard of Georgia’s European course.
“We chose European way, vision for modern future. My election is a sign of this. My family was forced to flee from Georgia because of the Soviet regime, however, Georgia now is the country which can make decisions independently,” Zurabishvili said.
President of Georgia said that she expected opposition’s protest since the election campaign was rigid. “My main rival is a Soviet diplomat. He (Grigol Vashadze) worked in Russia and protects Russian interests,” she said.
In the same interview, Zurabishvili says that she has rejected French citizenship.
