Geo Sky Head says no evacuation until complete ceasefire

Geo Sky Airlines Head Shalva Kiknadze said the evacuation of Georgian citizens from Sudan would not begin until a complete ceasefire.

As Shalva Kiknadze confirmed to the GPB’s First Channel, the company employees were safe and in touch with their family members.

“First, we should allow our engineers and pilots to get to the aircraft, inspect and evaluate the plane to determine if it is possible to fly or depart by alternative means. Our company’s 20 employees are in Khartoum. They stay safe at home, have water and food and are in constant communication with their family members,” he said.

Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group agreed on a 72-hour ceasefire until the end of Kurban Bayramı. In the meantime, humanitarian corridors will be opened to evacuate the civilians.

Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group have been engaged in fierce fighting since April 15. The battle for key sites left 200 civilians dead. Residents struggle with power cuts and food and potable water shortages in the capital Khartoum.
