GD Chair: President crosses red line

“There is no trust between the government and the President. In her shameful speech, delivered on May 26 (Independence Day of Georgia), the President publicly apologized for the government’s actions to the families of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war heroes. How can the government trust the President afterwards?” asked Irakli Kobakhidze, Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party at today’s impeachment hearing.

According to the GD Chair, the government cannot have confidence in President Zourabichvili in such a significant issue as EU candidate status.

“President-called Salome Zourabichvili crosses a red line. Of course, the government has zero confidence in her, especially when it comes to receiving candidate status. Salome Zurabishvili acts according to the radical opposition agenda, not to get the candidate status. The government cannot entrust the President to do things related to getting the EU candidate status. The legal stance and the political expediency are very strong here,” he said.
