Speaker says President acts beyond verges, complains about gov't overseas

“Salome Zourabichvili acts beyond any verges and complains about her own country’s government with foreign states. It seems that she does not view Georgia as a state,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

“It is incomprehensible. I have not heard of any such experience in history. I don’t want to compare with some centres, but when such complaints went to the centre, it happened 30 years ago when Georgia was part of the Soviet Union. If she has this stance, what does the French President have to do with the Georgian parliament’s activities? It seems that the President does not regard Georgia as a state,” he said.

According to the Speaker, the President should not urge leaders of other countries to convince leaders of Georgian people which law to adopt.

“This is exactly undermining Georgia’s independence when Georgia’s being part of the international community is viewed by the President that others should dictate Georgia what to do or not,” he said.

According to the Presidential Administration, President Salome Zourabichvili asked the European Council President Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron to put the Georgian developments on the agenda for discussions at the European Parliament.
