For Georgia's Kereselidze: Price regulation is challenging, but success hinges on political will

Shalva Kereselidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, remarked that regulating consumer prices is a complex and challenging issue, but ultimately, everything hinges on the existence of political will.

According to Kereselidze, if the process is not guided by PR objectives, the parliamentary commission will be able to achieve results that genuinely make the price reductions felt by ordinary people.

“The issue of price regulation is so intricate and demanding that we must consider not only medium- and long-term strategies but also short-term measures, to implement effective steps that society can genuinely feel as a social good. It’s a challenging task because it involves dealing with corrupt interests, hidden deals, and other obstacles. It’s not easy to accomplish all this single-handedly, but ultimately, everything depends on political will. Without it, nothing will come of these efforts. If the process lacks a PR-oriented approach, the commission will be able to achieve results that quickly translate into visible price decreases for the public,” Kereselidze noted.
