Flowers and candles near the Leogrand Hotel [video, photo]

The relatives of the victims of fire and ordinary citizens lay flowers and light the candles near the Leogrand Hotel in Batumi.

Zurab Pataridze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara arrived at the scene.

Eleven people died as a result of the fire, which broke out at 5-star Leogrand Hotel in Batumi. Ten people are citizens of Georgia, one – Iran. More than 100 people were evacuated from the building.

The investigation is underway under Article 243 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the violation of fire safety norms.

Fire broke out at at 20:00 on November 24.

Georgia is mourning regarding victims of Leogrand Hotel fire in Batumi city of Adjara region today. State flags have been lowered across Georgia’s territory.

November 27, 2017, was declared as Mourning Day at the decision of Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Georgian government.
