Finnish FM: Concerned with situation in Georgia, condemn violence against peaceful demonstrators

“ I’m very concerned with the situation in Georgia, and now I can also speak as the Chair-in-Office of the OSCE. The OSCE has through its ODIHR last year come out with a report on the elections, and also with the recommendation of essentially organizing new ones,” the Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said ahead of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting.

Valtonen also condemned the violence against peaceful demonstrators.

“The violence against peaceful protesters is not something that is acceptable in any free society.  If you want to remain a credible democracy, then you need to remain a credible democracy by organizing such elections which really do take into account the true opinion of the people,” the Finnish FM concluded.
